after many months of finding new carbs for my rf9, fitting them, gettin my bike doc to come round and set them up and getting the thing running right i decided to tackle the small water leak from the waterpump and oil leak from the clutch pushrod tube....or, so i thought???... sprocket cover off and OH MY GOD!! looks like the previous owner had the chain come off at speed.. lugs broken off the waterpump and crankcase smashed. the whole lot bodged back together with chemical metal and rtv goo!! so... the search now starts for another engine....out with the tools...AGAIN..

hi mate, i am also sorry to hear your news.....BUT.....there is hope. clean up the effected area and go to an ali welder and get them to weld it up! my ducati did the same and smashed a complete hole into the crank case. i stripped the engine got all the bits out and cleand up the wound,,,,then i took it to local ali welder to see what they thought and he welded it up there and then! never leaked again

worth a go mate

I've got a spare set of cases - if you swap the whole lot over including the mains shells and I reckon that would negate the need to plastigauge the crank back in? What think the RF massif?

I'd get a welder to look at it first though :)

I would have thought any casing change would require everything seating properly as there is still microscopic discrepancys between each casting..

Saying that the shells should reaseat themselfs though but would need looking into to be certain.

yeah no two crank cases are the same so you would need a pair in order to replace. the ally weld on my ducati only cost me 40 sheets so was very cost effective!
