just posting this to see if its just me or a common thing, was riding home on a couple of occassions the other week, i like to think i don't hang about, however, when i looked behind me firstly it was a newish CBR6 all the bells and whistles, polished rims, loud can, paint job, Full alpine stars race suit etc, pulled up next to me at the lights looked at my bike did not nod or wave, which i find very rude but thats a whole nother point, then did the whole revving the engine dump the clutch thing, then proceeded to wobble around the next series of corners before blasting off on the straights very odd behaviour, and a 1 off i thought....

few days later a Fireblade rider, does pretty much the same thing???, what happened to everyone on bikes waving/nodding, and just being happy to be riding, when i see or overtake another bike i have the graces to wave, even if its a scooter, they still have two wheels right?? don't get this idea of my bike is newer/more expensive because some bike mag says so, so i must overtake you,

what's that all about or am i paranoid, or are they genuinely confused about what i am riding, the old ear of the unknown and they are trying to run away

Ah well ya see, thing is, well, yer actual biker types are a different breed from yer average power ranger.

how to spot a power ranger

1. bike is less than 5 years old
2. it will be a sports bike (not sport tourer, super sport or owt else)
3. riding kit will all look new and will all match ie boots gloves helmet suit
4.suit will be of the 'bikergrow' variety (one piece)
5. boots base colour will more often than not be white
6. bike will show no evidence of being ridden in the rain.

sorry for the stereotyping and please feel free to flame me.

I agree however there are bikers and "so called bikers".

The real biker will ride all year round not worried if he gets wet or his bike gets mucky(we dry they wash) and will always give you the nod as they pass.

Then theres the "so called" they come out on a sunny day on a weekend mostly and not when its not cold and think there better than everyone else because they have a new bike(probably on tick)all the new kit and cry if it rains when there out. O and spend and spend all week cleaning it hoping it will be sunny next weekend to do it all again. They ride around like idiots everywhere they go making everyone think all people that ride bikes are like them(not).

Now don`t get me wrong on the last statement I enjoy a good blast as we all do but unlike them I have curtusey towards other road users(tends to help you live longer)

Forgive me if my coments sound harsh but in the years I have been riding you see it more and more nowadays

I must be a power ranger then with my one peice RST leathers and Shoei matching helmet then.

Funny, I seem to nod and wave to most bikers that past me by even when I'm out on the GS.

Funny story last year, was out for a run through some nice twisty on the old girl and a pocket rocket 600 came past me on the bends and left me for dead. Caught him up at the roundabout that leads down to the motorway. He got a little neverous when I was keeping up with him doing erhhum 70 mph officer honest. :?

Funny these old girls still have a deceptive turn of speed against modern bikes.

Old wobbler

Ok , where do i fit into that analogy then ?.....

I do consider myself a " fair weather rider " as i tend to only ride when it's dry ( cold or warm - no difference ) but only because i'm in the position that i can as my bike is basically my toy not a workhorse, plus i loathe cleaning it - which i know i have to do as i've tried to live with a dirty bike and it just annoys me, and having been a biker since i was 17 ( now 35 ) i can honestly say that never in the pouring rain did i think " hmmmmmm this is fun......."

I have a 1 piece suit ( trackday requirement ) but also 2 piece jacket n trousers. 1 piece only goes on if i'm going for a serious blat which outside of trackdays is not very often TBH.....

But........my bike was paid with cash outright, is now 10yrs old, and i make every effort to nod, or stick a boot out ( if i overtake ) any other biker i see whilst out on my jollies.....

I do know what you are getting at, but such a sweeping generalization can do nothing constructive for the biking world as a whole. There will alway's be prats in every walk of life ( why should biking be any different ?? ) but that's their shortcomings, don't let it impart on yours.......

I'm a fair weather biker. Loved bikes as long as I can remember, got one as soon as I was old enough. Fell off some, got knocked off some but still came back for more. I,ve had hair down my back and ape bars, now I have short hair and a bike with a fairing. The bikes have changed over the years and people have also changed but the one thing that has not is the individuals love of his motorcycling, vive la differance!

Get a lot of people like this as the previous poster said. Hardly ever get anyone overtaking me when I'm out for fun because I tend to ride quite quickly. When I'm pottering about though and someone comes flying past on a straight only to later put themselves in danger trying to get away from me in the twisties I quite enjoy it! If they're faster than me then fair play to them.

Not many people of the above description nod tbh, although I always nod to them out of instinct.

I don't really like riding in the rain (like today) but the bike is my only form of transport and I will if I have to get somewhere. If I could afford to own a car though I almost certainly would take that instead.

Also my bike IS the best bike in the world. It's bare rapid and frequently does 250mph in 3rd gear, although I sometimes ease off a touch to reduce the number of flies splatting on my pristine 1-piece, kangaroo hide race-suit.

---------
we have an in joke between a few people i ride with.
basically a phone call was put into rob who was selling his ducati (as he hates them but his wife judy loves them)
when rob said "oh you'll have to talk to the wife she know's more about ducati's than me" the bloke went off on one about how rob was taking the mick finishing the statment with "i wear dianese leathers"

since then it's been "oh look shiny dianese leathers" to most of the F**kwits out there.

i do tend to get annoyed when they not only endanger them selfs but also other road users (especially when that road user is me) by overtaking on blind corners or sitting in your blind spot so you can't move about on the road to avoid things.

still it is nice to have a proper biker ride with you once in a while. even better when you don't know him/her and at the end of the road they stop for a chat about your bike their bike and the great riding road you just blasted down. i've had it once or twice on the cat and fiddle road which always makes you feel warm and fuzzy. (it's normally the old hands that do it too)

and one last story to proof there are knobs and they like 1 peice matching suits and bikes (sorry but they both had R1's)

parked at the bike show in the big hall i'd walked back to the bikes while the others went for a pee. i'm sat there with the missus while these 2 power rangers stand around talking about how big their cocks are and what they will do to each other later or something.
a guy walks up (cut off and brotherhood patch you know the sort) gets on his customised virago (viagra hehe) with the power rangers staring at him. lid on gloves starts bike pulls away. big clunk bike falls over. we all know what he did don't we. yep disc lock. i walk over (well most likely run) check he's alright help him lift the monster of a bike up and put it on the stand give it a quick look over with the guy. mean while the power rangers are just staring at him like his sh*t on there shiny boots.
really annoyed me as it doesn't take much to help another person out in a fix. like stopping if you see a biker broke down. it's just the done thing.
